Adaptive feedback cancelling in subbands for hearing aids

چکیده
In this paper a hearing aid concept with recruitment of loudness compensation and acoustic feedback cancellation is presented. Special consideration is given to the acoustic feedback canceler which uses only the available (e.g. speech) input signal for adaptation. In principle, the feedback canceler is adapted to the feedback path in the transform domain using a power-normalized least mean square (LMS) algorithm. The transformation into uniform subbands is based on an augmentation of the modulated lapped transform (MLT). Together with the hearing-loss compensating forward lter the proposed feedback canceler is computationally very e cient.

Subband signal processing for hearing aids
In this paper a hearing aid concept working in subbands is presented. Consideration is given to the compensator for recruitment of loudness and the acoustic feedback cancellation. In addition, a step-size control for fast tracking and a constant error level with non-stationary input signals is presented. The feedback canceler is adapted to the feedback path in the transform domain using a power...

This paper provides analysis and real-time performance comparisons on modified application from two-microphone classic adaptive noise cancelling and beamforming methods. Experiments are processed by software implementation using LabVIEW in a real environment, which is typical indoor office with moderate reverberation condition. The speech performances are analyzed in time and frequency domains ...
متن کاملSteady-State Analysis of Continuous Adaptation Systems in Hearing Aids
Acoustic feedback is a problem in hearing aids that contain a substantial amount of gain, hearing aids that are used in conjunction with vented or open molds, and in-the-ear hearing aids. Acoustic feedback is both annoying and reduces the maximum usable gain of hearing-aid devices. This paper studies analytically the steady-state convergence behavior of LMS-based adaptive algorithms when operat...

متن کاملHowling and Entrainment in Hearing Aids: A Review
This review focuses on howling and entrainment artifacts in digital hearing aids. The howling may occur (especially at high gains), essentially due to the close proximity of the input microphone and the output loudspeaker. The entrainment, on the other hand, occurs when the input to the hearing aids is periodic, for example, music signals or alarm signals with strong tonal characteristics. We g...
